Countless banks and businesses have their headquarters in its Central District, Hamra Street, Rue Verdun and Ashrafieh. The cultural landscape of the city is going through a vital restoration after the damaging Civil War.

    Sitting on a peninsula that extends into the Mediterranean Sea, Beirut is about 94 km north of the southern border. Its triangular shape at the feet of the Lebanese Mountains, the metropolitan area of the city is 76 sqm. Its coast is very diverse with beaches varying from rocky roads to sandy shores and cliffs. One of its most famous landmarks is the Raouche Rock that sits close to the shore.

    Mild days and nights best describe the summer in Beirut, while autumn and spring are warm, with a mild and rainy winter. August is considered the hottest month, with an average high of 32 °C, whereas January and February, the coldest months, have an average low of 11 °C (Snowy weather Mountain). A dominant breeze in the afternoon and evening comes from the Mediterranean.

Beirut was formally recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders Cities together with Vigan, Doha, Durban, Havana, Kuala Lumpur, and La Paz in May 2015.
